Read Smarter, Not Harder Challenge

The “Read Smarter, Not Harder Challenge” is a challenge in which one challenges themselves to read a vast range of books which they would not have read otherwise. It includes categories such as, “Read a nonfiction book about science” and “Read a book that is by an author of color.” 

  1. Read a mystery book.
  2. Read a nonfiction book about science. Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance
  3. Read a collection of essays or short stories.
  4. Read a book out loud to your Kindergarten buddy.
  5. Read a biography, memoir, or autobiography. Kitchen Confidential by Anthony Bourdain
  6. Read a dystopian or post-apocalyptic novel. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline
  7. Listen to an audiobook that has won an Audie Award.
  8. Read a book that is by an author of color.
  9. Read a book of historical fiction set before 1900.
  10. Read or listen to a book from our digital library.
  11. Read a non-superhero graphic novel.
  12. Read a book that was adapted into a movie, then watch the movie. Debate which is better.
  13. Read a book about feminism or dealing with feminist themes (fiction or nonfiction).
  14. Read a book about religion (fiction or nonfiction).
  15. Read a book about politics, in your country or another (fiction or nonfiction).
  16. Read a play. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by J. K. Rowling, Jack Thorne, and John Tiffany
  17. Read a book with the main character that has a physical, social, psychological, neurological or learning difference.
